Having worked in financial advisory at Mazars since 2005 and across three continents, I have gained a unique multi-disciplinary experience that allows me to deliver effective and comprehensive transaction and advisory solutions to my clients. For more than 15 years, I have been assisting clients on numerous acquisition or divestment projects in a broad range of sectors for either local or cross border deals. With a focus on both buy-side and vendor due diligence projects, I have also been involved in complex carve out projects, earn-out reviews and purchase price allocation engagements. During my work at Mazars, I have also led post-acquisition audits for international groups and have assisted foreign investors in forensic investigations. My culturally diverse background and broad experience working with, and leading multicultural teams allows me to find the right skills and fit to serve my clients.

Matthew Ashley

Managing Partner

As an advisor I am actively involved with my clients’ businesses. I aim to be a valuable contributor to the growth of my clients’ businesses from the start-up phase through to preparation for listing, sale or transition to the next generation where necessary. In some cases this means sitting in on management meetings and advising on a weekly basis. This includes looking ahead and being aware of potential roadblocks so that appropriate action can be taken early enough. My success results from a deep knowledge of my clients’ businesses and applying my technical knowledge and experience gained over 15 years. My in depth understanding of financial modelling allows me to assist clients with forecasts, budgets and scenario analysis to ensure that my clients are able to make informed decisions which are critical to every business success.

I assist my clients to make better and wiser business and investment decisions when they encounter the world of indirect taxes. Indirect taxes are a mysterious, confusing and constantly changing field. With decades of experience in multiple taxes, I am well equipped to help clients understand where they have liabilities and also where opportunities for exemptions and credits can be taken. My specialties and background include: •GST planning and transaction advice for the property sector as well as land tax dispute and planning advice for developers, investors and family property portfolios. •Implementing whole of business GST systems in Australia. •Implementing tax systems for state government authorities. •Establishing streamlined GST compliance systems in Australia for non-residents. •Providing fuel tax credits advice and claims assistance for the transport, construction and Government sectors. •Planning strategies to reduce indirect tax costs for manufacturers, importers and wholesalers. •Payroll tax advice and planning. My membership of the Commonwealth Board of Taxation Advisory Panel since 2008 has enabled me to influence the development of indirect taxes in Australia. I also author the GST chapters for Wolters Kluwer Small Business Tax Concessions Guide.

I enjoy working with clients to help them to understand and make sense of the numbers. As a Partner in our business advisory division at Mazars, I have extensive experience in all areas of accounting and aim to provide services to a wide range of business clients, including industries such as retailers, wholesaling, manufacturing, building services, primary producers and stock and station agents. Having worked in a private business as Chief Financial Officer, I understand intimately the difficulties and challenges my clients face. This has helped me to deliver excellent, practical and easy to understand advice and services to my client. My areas of expertise include Business Advisory Services, Business Improvement, Cash Flow Projection and Business Forecasts and Business Value Assessment to name a few. I also assist international clients with advice on establishing new businesses and registration requirements in Australia and helping them navigate the intricate compliance and regulation requirements. At home, I am a family man, an avid Rugby (in fact any sport) supporter and Mountain Bike Rider.
